Barium Carbonate has the following specifications:

• Appearance: White amorphous Powder.

• Purity as BaCO3:98.00% Min.

• Matter insoluble in HCl: 1.60% Max.

• Water Soluble Sulphide as BaS: 0.40% Max.

• Iron as Fe2O3: 0.04% Max.

• Alkali and other Metal Sulphate as BaSO4:2.00% Max.

• Moisture: 0.25% Max.

Barium Carbonate is suited for:

• In the manufacture of the other Barium Compounds such as Barium Chloride, Barium Nitrate and Barium Sulphate.

• As a fluxing ingredient in enamels, glazes and ceramic bodies.

• In the oil-well drilling industry to stabilize the desired properties of the baryte suspension which is used as drilling mud.

• In the manufacture of photographic paper; to generate Barium Sulphate in the paper this imparts a flat white appearance.

• In the glass industry, formulae containing various percentages of Barium Oxide are used for several purposes.

• To obtain Barium Oxide of required percentage, Barium Carbonate is added to the mix.

• In the ferrous metallurgy, Barium Carbonate is used in some systems for steel carbonizing.
